PGL Bucharest 2026 kicks off on April 3 with 16 teams competing for a $1.25M prize pool ($625K to players, $625K to organizations). Here's everything you need to know heading into the event.

The Basics

  • Dates: April 3-11, 2026
  • Location: PGL Studio, Bucharest, Romania
  • Prize Pool: $1,250,000 ($200,000 for 1st place)
  • Format: Swiss System group stage (Bo3) into single-elimination playoffs (Bo3, Bo5 Grand Final)
  • Teams: 16 (11 invited via VRS Global, 5 through regional qualifiers)

The Teams

Notable absences here. Vitality and NAVI, the two teams that just played the BLAST Rotterdam final, are not in attendance. That opens the door for other rosters to make a statement.

Favorites

FaZe Clan are probably the team to beat at this event. With Vitality absent, FaZe have a real shot at picking up a trophy and closing the gap at the top of the rankings.

The MongolZ continue to be one of the most exciting teams in CS2. Their aggressive playstyle can be hard to prepare for, and a tournament without the top 2 teams in the world gives them room to run.

Astralis have been building momentum. This is the kind of event where they need to prove they belong in the conversation with the elite teams.

Dark Horses

PARIVISION just made a deep run at BLAST Rotterdam, pushing NAVI to three maps in the semifinals. They're riding confidence and could surprise some bigger names here.

3DMAX have been quietly consistent. Not a team that grabs headlines, but they show up at LANs and can take maps off anyone on their day.

FUT Esports represent the Turkish scene and always bring energy to international events. If they can translate their online form to LAN, they could make a playoff run.

Qualifier Teams to Watch

FOKUS earned their spot through the European qualifier and will be looking to prove they belong at this level.

Team Voca and Wildcard came through the North American qualifier. Both are relatively unknown on the international stage, making them unpredictable opponents in the Swiss rounds.

Players to Watch

broky (FaZe Clan) - One of the most reliable AWPers in the world. With Vitality absent, broky has a chance to put up numbers without facing ZywOo. If FaZe want the trophy, he needs to be the best player at the event.

frozen (FaZe Clan) - Since joining from MOUZ, frozen has revitalized FaZe's mid-round game. He plays both passive and aggressive roles, and his versatility makes him hard to anti-strat. A breakout tournament performance here could push him into top 10 player conversations.

Jame (PARIVISION) - The veteran AWPer known for his methodical playstyle. PARIVISION just came off a strong BLAST Rotterdam run and Jame's experience in big matches is a factor that can't be overlooked. Love him or hate him, he delivers results.

cobrazera (The MongolZ) - The 20-year-old just joined The MongolZ after posting a 1.16 rating over 200+ maps with The Huns in 2025. This is his first big international event with the squad. If he performs, The MongolZ become a real threat to win it all.

phzy (Astralis) - Astralis broke their all-Danish tradition to sign this Swedish AWPer. He's still settling in, but has shown flashes. PGL Bucharest is a proving ground for whether this new international Astralis lineup can actually compete at the top.

ryu (Astralis) - Lithuanian rifler who joined alongside phzy. Another international addition to the historically Danish roster. His individual skill has been impressive in online play, but LAN is where reputations are made.

npl (B8) - Part of B8's experienced Ukrainian core. The team is ranked 19th and has been steadily climbing. A strong showing from npl could attract attention from bigger orgs looking to upgrade their roster.

Twistzz (FaZe Clan) - Still one of the most mechanically gifted riflers in CS2. Under karrigan's leadership, Twistzz has the freedom to take fights that other players can't win. Always a threat to be the best player in any server he's in.

Format Breakdown

The Swiss System group stage means every match matters from round one. Teams need to reach 3 wins to advance to playoffs or hit 3 losses to be eliminated. All group stage matches are Bo3, which rewards consistency over individual map upsets.

The playoffs are single-elimination, so there's no safety net. One bad series and you're out. The Grand Final is Bo5, giving the two best teams room to go deep in their map pools.

What to Watch For

Can FaZe take advantage? Without Vitality in the field, this is FaZe's tournament to lose. Anything less than a final appearance would be disappointing for them.

The MongolZ on LAN. They've proven they can compete with anyone online. A deep playoff run here would cement them as a legitimate top 5 team in the world.

Qualifier upsets. The Swiss format means FOKUS, EYEBALLERS, Team Voca, and Wildcard will face top teams early. Even one upset win can shift the entire bracket.

Transfer market implications. Players on struggling rosters who show up individually at this event will put themselves on the radar for better teams. We'll be watching closely.
